WELCOME TO 5 PENCE

HAND-CRAFTED GIN, VODKA AND RUM

about-1about-2

From the founder of Woodstock Gin, Simon von Witt, comes a new and exciting spirit brand called 5 Pence. The name has an interesting story behind it, which came about initially through his wife’s obsession with the name Spencer. He made promises to call a baby boy or male puppy Spencer. Needless to say, there was no baby boy called Spencer, but a new gin was borne with a similar sounding name. 5 Pence also provides a direct link between SA and the UK, which was once under British rule and during that time a bottle of spirits could be bought for the sum of 5 pence. 5 Pence spirit range are also aptly named after the English coin, the smallest size coin in the largest, most powerful modern-day empire. Once found by chance signifies an inspiration of creativity. 5 People are involved in the founding of the company and 5 percent is going back to the conservation of fynbos.

5 PENCE

FAR MORE THAN JUST A DISTILLED SPIRIT

The gin range is handcrafted in small batches in the heart of Woodstock, Cape Town’s artistic hub. It is made from 15 different botanicals, 8 of which are carefully and ethically sourced fynbos plant species. Slight undertones of citrus are present in this bold, fragrant and remarkably smooth gin. It is available as a Classic London Dry style gin or Pinotage pink, where uniquely South African Pinotage grape skins are infused into the gin post distillation. Both of these gins have won awards internationally. An aged gin and rum will also be launched soon. Our vodka range will only be available in early 2020.
